What to expect

Agios Nikolaos is the capital of the Lasithi prefecture. It is a beautiful small town with its picturesque lagoon used to moor boats. But there's another side that's hidden from the most visitors eyes. We are talking about the hidden villages of Lasithi, like Kritsa and Forni villages, filled with traditions, local crafts and welcoming lokals.

Itinerary

8.00-9.30
Departure early in the morning to the traditional village of Kritsa, we will admire the famous Kera monastery and drink coffee in a local cafe. The church is a 19th century architectural gem, and the little store of the village’s women’s association is the perfect place to buy local products.
10.00-11.00
Immediately afterwards we depart for the most famous beach of Agios Nikolaos, the Voulisma beach with its blue-green waters. The beach is popular and organized with umbrellas, sunbeds, water sports and a beach bar. We stay at the beach for 1 hour and continue to the beautiful town of Agios Nikolaos. We will see the Voulismeni lake, and we will have the possibility of a short photo stop. Next visit the famous Elounda village and its internationally renowned resorts.
12.00-13.00 Plaka village
We will stay in the fishing village of Plaka about 1 hour to see Spinalonga and stroll through the traditional village. The road above the village has an excellent view of Spinalonga and the bay of Elounda. Spinalonga is the small island opposite Plaka with a history full of Ottomans, Venetian conquerors and Chaini, Cretan rebels. The island has been a Leprosy Center until 1957. The difficult life of the patients marked the area and charged it emotionally, making it a place of historical memory.
13.30-16.00 Traditional Greek meal
The route above the village of Plaka has a unique view that takes your breath away. We will pass through villages that time has forgotten, we will meet baby goats and smell olive trees and wild sage. At the end of our visit, we will eat and drink raki in a traditional tavern on our way back.
