Overview
Elafonisi appears in the first places with the best beaches of Crete. The pink sand from the thousands of broken shells and the turquoise water of the lagoon makes a paradise that everyone wants to see and photograph.
What to expect
Majestic colors, pink sand and green-blue waters. Swim in the shallow waters and feel the relaxed atmosphere of the lagoon. The small island is a Natura 2000 protected area with rare bio-communities. Lilies and more than 100 plants thrive in the dunes. Please respect this unique area and don't take sand or any plants.
Itinerary
6.30-10.00 Elafonisi beach
The route is approximately 3.5 hours. We set off at 6.30 in the morning to have time to see the beach when it’s less crowded. After a stop, we are driving south and we come across the impressive Topolia gorge. We pass through the narrowest part of the canyon where the rocks are high and vertical. Fairies were believed to live in the gorge, as well as the mythical Talos, the guardian of Crete.
10.00-16.00
We park ina special area away from the beach. The walk from the parking area to the beach takes about 15-20 minutes. The main beach is organized with umbrellas, canteen, water sports and toilets. The fee for sunbeds is 20 euros per set with umbrella. In the summer months it is very crowded, and we prefer the morning arrival. Relax you are in a paradise place. We stayed 6 hours, and you will have plenty of time to enjoy all the beauties of the island.
16.00-20.00
We are ready and full of memories to go back. The route with a short stop is approximately 4 hours.
