Agios Nikolaos is a charming coastal town that blends cosmopolitan flair with authentic Cretan character. As the capital of the Lasithi region, it offers the perfect mix of history, culture, relaxation, and scenic beauty—making it a favorite for travelers of all styles.
At the heart of the town lies Lake Voulismeni, a small circular lake connected to the sea by a narrow channel. Local legends claim it is “bottomless,” and mythology says the goddess Athena used to bathe here. Surrounded by cafés, tavernas, and flower-lined walkways, the lake is a stunning focal point—especially beautiful at sunset.
We will visit 2 amazing beaches: Voulisma beach, just a few kilometers from Agios Nikolaos with its stunning waters, and then we will continue to Myrtos beach, near the town of Ierapetra. At the end, we will stay for a meal at a traditional tavern in the village.
The beaches we will visit are among the most beautiful and popular in Crete. They are organized with umbrellas, chairs, and water sports, but there are also free spots where you can lay a towel on the sand.
Situated just a short drive from Agios Nikolaos, Voulisma Beach is renowned for its soft golden sands and clear turquoise waters. Nestled in the Bay of Mirabello, it’s ideal for swimming and relaxation.
Myrtos is renowned for its coarse gray sand and fine pebbles, offering a unique texture that doesn’t stick to the skin. The beach is sheltered from strong winds, making it ideal for swimming.
