Kritsa village is one of the most beautiful villages in Lasithi prefecture, with a fascinating history and some of the best-preserved traditional houses in Crete. The village is a photographer’s delight with courtyards and steps full of pots, tasteful shops, weavers, rags and colorful pottery.
The Kritsa gorge starts near the village of Kritsa and offers an adventurous crossing. It is easily accessible with a few points that need attention. Lots of metal hoops and a rope help us over the rocks. At its narrowest point, the gorge is 80 cm wide and 150 m high. The trail is open year-round and is beautiful to visit anytime. Optional Stop: Church of Panagia Kera
Located just outside the village, Panagia Kera is one of Crete’s most important Byzantine churches, renowned for its stunning 13th–14th century frescoes. Visitors can explore its well-preserved interior and learn about its religious and historical significance.
