Hike Karfi peak, a Minoan settlement nestled in the Lassithi Mountains. At its peak, at an altitude of 1,141 meters, traces of a Minoan Peak Sanctuary have been found. These were outdoor sanctuaries located on the island’s mountaintops, where Minoan pilgrims would ascend to offer gifts to their gods. Such sanctuaries are often found in the mountains of Eastern Crete.
Our hike begins at Nissimos Plateau (933 m.), located north of Tzermiado village. From the top of Karfi, you will be rewarded with breathtaking views of the northern coast of Crete. Then, we will follow the downhill trail meeting one of the oldest natural springs of Creta, named Vitsilovrisi. After, we will continue downhill to Krasi village, where we will see one of the oldest Plane trees of Crete.
